This one-of-a-kind rug is hand-woven in Morocco and it is made from Cactus Silk, obtained from Saharan Aloe Vera Cactus. It's made by crushing the spiky leaves and soaking them in water to separate the fibers and filaments, then they are washed and dried and spun to make silk threads. To ensure the fabric is as natural as possible, threads are dyed using all-natural dyes like saffron. Dying the threads is a very long process, but when it is completed the colors bright and beautiful.
Cactus Silk rugs are woven on traditional weaving looms by hand so each rug is different, natural variations in color and ancient motifs, minor flaws and imperfections are characteristic of these materials.
